Description
Campus Infrastructure is a multi-phase, multi-element project which will supplement existing infrastructure to support new research buildings being constructed and future growth.
The installation of large storage tanks beneath the east Main Mall will mitigate surface water run-off from large rainstorms on Cherry Ave. and reduce the risk of flooding of University buildings and impacts to 6th Street and neighborhoods to the south.
During a rainstorm, catch basins installed in University Blvd and Cherry Ave will intercept and channel storm water to a series of interconnected, 10 feet diameter, 20 feet long underground tanks installed under the east Mall where it will gradually dissipate into the ground. Upon completion, the system will accommodate a I hour rainfall event of up to 2.3 inches.
